GOLCONDA FORT

In 1143, during the reign of the Kakatiyas of Warangal, a shepherd boy found an idol on rocky hill called Mankal. He went and showed it to the King. The King was so impressed with the find that he built a mud fort around the spot and renamed the place Golconda – derived from the Telugu word Gollakonda or the hill of the sherpherds.
