Sanjay Gandhi National Park

Once called the Borivali National Park, this wildlife reserve is at a distance of 14.0 km/8.7 miles from the hotel and is spread over 104 square kilometres.

A somewhat offbeat, yet popular tourist spot, this wildlife reserve is known for its rich flora and fauna and the 2400 year old Kanheri Caves.

Its two lakes – Vihar Lake and Tulsi Lake not only serve as the water supply for the park, but also for a large section of the city.

With 800 varieties of flowering plants; 284 bird species; 5,000 kinds of insects; 36 types of mammals, 62 reptile species and 150 types of butterflies, including several endangered species of plants and animals, this forest reserve is a precious part of the region’s ecosystem.

What’s more, the Atlas Moth – believed to be the world's largest moth was discovered in this park. Another exotic variety of plant found here is the Karvi, the mauve blossoms of which bloom only once in eight years.
