Purana Qila

This was the site where in 1538 Emperor Humayun began construction of his city called “Dinpanah”, or Asylum of Faith. The inner citadel of this fort today is known as Purana Qila (Old Fort ). Of the many palaces & houses which were once within its precints only the single domed Qila-i- Kuhna mosque built by Sher Shah Suri in 1541 & the Sher Mandal, a two storey octagonal pavilion in red sandstone, said to be Emperor Humayun’s library, remain. A local guide is recommended to accompany for a visit.
