The Gavi Gangeshwari Temple
Mentioned in the travelogues of the British as early as 1792, the “gavi” or cave temple is located in the nook of a small hill called Harirayanagudda. Dedicated to the celestial couple Shiva and Parvati, Kempegowda, the founder of Bangalore, renovated the temple and the architecture typically in Dravidian style was built during his time. On the day of Makara Shankranti, the sun’s rays fall directly on the presiding deity of Gangadhareshwara Swamy, an event designed by architects over two centuries ago
