Chennai (erstwhile Madras), the capital of Tamil Nadu, is the fourth largest city in India. The rathas (temples in the form of chariots), madapas (cave sanctuaries), giant open-air reliefs such as the famous â€˜Descent of the Gangesâ€™, and the Shore Temple in Mahabalipuram have together been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The charismatic and mighty Bay of Bengal runs parallel to Mahabalipuram and adds a scenic and mesmerizing touch to this ancient town, making it a must visit destination for locals and tourists alike.
