HISTORY AND CULTURE

Vadodara, a quondam  princely state on the banks of the River Vishwamitiri, is an amalgam of old world charm and modern prosperity. Including grand old palaces and temples with swanky IT parks and corporate offices, the city is popularly referred to as “Baroda”.  Being Gujarat’s third most populous city, Vadodara is also acknowledged as the cultural capital of Gujarat.

    TRAVEL TIPS

    ·        Be careful of touts who try to mislead travellers and are persistent in offering their services. When confronted by touts, firmly tell them that you do not require their services.

    ·        Be familiar with the language spoken so that you avoid any sort of hustle-bustle while roaming in the city. People in Vadodara converse in Gujarati,Marathi , Hindi and English.

    ·        Always make a note of emergency numbers in the city, like 101 (Police) and 102 ( Ambulance), the phone/calling code of Vadodara is +91 265

    ·        The currency in Vadodara is the Indian rupee (INR) therefore, make sure that you carry Indian rupee with you else the airport is home to a 24-hour money change office.

    ·        Manage your time effectively. Be aware of  how consuming each destination would be in terms of time. Travel with flex travel time on the front end,  this will reduce your frustration if there happen to be any sort of delays.

    ·        Local transport consists mainly of City Buses and three-wheelers called auto-rickshaws which are very cheap and easily available. While travelling always insist on meter usage.

    ·        If you're headed to plan a trip to Vadodara, make sure that it lasts not more than three days because then you'll run out of things to do. And because of the fact that it is cosmopolitan - infrastructurally decent and well connected by rail, road and air, it is a good place to make day trips to other places.
