If there is any other cuisine that I love after Indian cuisine that would be Italian cuisine closely followed by mediterranean cuisine in general, but if you read this blog regularly you know that already :). So when I hear that new restaurant that serves Italian Food which is a fine balance of traditional and modern Italian Food in theTown that is Ottimo at West View at hotel ITC Maurya, it is slightly difficult for me to not go and see what the buzz is all about. Even though I am still in a beautiful food coma by all the traditional food we washed down with equal delicious vino on our recent trip to Italy, i had to check that out. Ottimo at West View Concept Before I take you to through the menu and food talk, let me give you a quick run down about this new restaurant. If you are a regular at fine dining space in New Delhi's West View is definitely on the radar if you happen to love continental food. I personally loved those lazy winter brunches in the outdoor seating and one of the best views this restaurant offers. Now ITC has reinvented the West View in it’s New avatar which is named Ottimo at West view which is bigger better and shinier than it’s previous avatar which now serves what was it’s initial strength classics from European cuisine as well as Italian Menu which is new addition. Ottimo in Italian means “excellent” is presided by Italian Chef Vittorio Greco who is a Native of Tuscany and who has now made Brisbane his new home base but insists as much as he loves Brisbane He will always be a Tuscan and Italian at heart. Speaking about Food Chef Vittorio points towards the blackboard that they have placed near entry of the restaurant and tells me that there is going to be something like Today’s special everyday to keep the regulars interested (something that I observed they do in many traditional Italian restaurants too}. And also he plans to introduce lot more vegetarian options to the already extensive vegetarian menu. A vegetarian in me is finally delighted to see as much variety as a non vegetarian menu has :) Ottimo at West View Ambience In terms of decor The “Ottimo at Westview” continues to be dominated by European decor largely but with bright and cheery golden and yellow hues with a huge community table in the centre that sits on beautifully patterned floor and on top of it hangs a beautifully lit chandelier with mediterranean blue dominating it. The community table goes with the Italian Dining concept of community dining and I think ideal for big group or even extended family get togethers which is in sync with true spirit of Italian community feast to share the joy of goof food. Outside seating has been given a complete revamp with a water body and my favourite addition of a herb wall which are used to add fresh flavour to the food. I think that will continue to remain favourite with diners who loved west view winter brunches. Ottimo Food Menu We started our meal with signature dish at Ottimo Burrata with Sour Cherry Sauce and Toasted Almonds { Burrata Con ciliage marasche} for me, and Fresh lobster salad with vanilla pineapple mustard coulis and avocado reduction {Insalata Di Aragosta Con Ananas Alla Vaniglia E Riduzione Di Avocado} for husband. Both beautifully plated in fine china which they have sourced from Spain and delightfully refreshing. I loved the Chef’s improvisation of traditional burrata with tomatoes and stuff with this version of sweet and savory cherry sauce and crunchy roasted almonds. Next on our table Parmigiana Rivisitata Con Olio Al Carbone. Over lapped sheets of aubergine and tomato topped with extra virgin olive oil, parmesan mousse, parmesan chips and charcoal olive oil. Again not one of your traditional Italian but so flavourfully rich that you love each bite and best way to eat this is have little bit of everything together tells me Chef Vittorio who takes out small little breaks and makes it point to greet and talk with fellow diners. What followed after these two beautiful dishes was Parmesan soup {Zuppa de Parmesan}, Now that is the soup that has always been my favourite and to the extent that I can just order this may be along with thin slice of parmesan toast and be satisfied with just that. This was light and filling at the same time. Richness of cheese perfectly balanced by sweetness from rice which has been used in cooking the soup. From pasta and risotto section Chef served us Ravioli Doppi Con Funghi, Ricotta E Tartufo in Acqua Di Parmigiana which is Double stuffed ravioli with wild mushroom and ricotta and truffle in parmesan water and Chef proudly announces that Ottimo is only place in India that serves pocketed ravioli. As the name suggests this comes with double stuffing one secret pocket for one layer of extra filling which is revelled after you dig in with your fork and knife. For the mains I had Zucchine Parmigiana, A rich dish with alternate layers of Zucchini and Parmesan. It was good too. Husband opted for Gambiri Imperiali Alla Livornesse which is king prawns served with fresh tomato, parsley and sprinkled with olive dust. Being a sea food lover he thoroughly enjoyed the main course. For dessert or Dolce you are thoroughly spoilt for choice we tried little bit of three from three popular Italian classics. We stared with Lemon Mousse a refreshing dessert that is great balance of texture which ranges from smooth to crisp and taste wise perfect balance of sweetness from lemon curd and crispness from crackers and sweet and sour bits from the fruit compete. Simply brilliant. Pannacotta wins hands down as far as clever presentation is concerned, very innovatively presented it makes you wonder this is fruit compote where did my pannacotta that I ordered go until you lift you spoon and dig in that compote. I am not going to tell you more about it you will have to go taste and find out the sweet surprise. In the last comes that Italian Classic we all crave for, the star of Italian desserts Tiramisu. Chef Vittorio very thoughtfully kept it simple and classic which is made with best of the ingredients and expectedly delight in each bite. A perfect crescendo to finish a fine Italian Meal. Should You Go Yes! Definitely Yes, If you love Italian food and want to enjoy it in perfect setting and warm ITC hospitality. Though price wise West View has always been on premium side and now New Ottimo at Westside is also remains same so I think definitely big thumbs up on both Food and ambience.
